Wushu Academy in Sydney

The world of martial arts may seem like a crowded and complex one, but much of the apparent complexity is down to terminology, and particularly the Chinese names. Wushu, for instance, means Kung Fu, and everyone knows what that is: it’s one of the martial arts. The term wushu was first used in the 6th century, so although martial arts may be a relatively modern concept in western culture, the idea and the practice have been around since ancient times.

At One Tao Kung Fu Academy, we run Wushu classes in Sydney that have helped people – adults and youngsters alike – to transform their life, not just with the physical side of the training but through meditation too.

There was a time when all most people knew about martial arts was judo, then jiu jitsu, kung fu, taekwondo, and along came the concept of MMA – mixed martial arts. Wushu is not one of the more common names, but it’s right here in the most vibrant city in the country. This makes learning wushu, or martial arts, or wing chun in Sydney well worth looking into.

Kung Fu Wushu in Australia: Where does Meditation Come In?

Australian society is increasingly multicultural, which is bringing a level of sophistication to the country for which it may not previously have been known. But sophistication isn’t an exclusively intellectual phenomenon; martial arts training in Sydney could be seen as more sophisticated than boxing, even though the latter’s original rules were drawn up by an aristocrat, the Marquess of Queensberry. Both are forms of fighting, but wushu is a response to aggression, not an aggressive act in itself.

At first glance, bracketing self-defence with meditation may seem rather odd, but when you think of martial arts or Kung Fu Wushu in Australia, there is a calmness in it that only adds to the physical power that self-defence involves. Our wushu classes in Sydney teach meditation to enhance physical performance through serenity, clarity of thought and the ability to focus on a given objective. The heroes people admire most are those who seem to have an inner peace and natural concentration that makes them always seem one step ahead of the opposition, and it’s this kind of approach that makes learning Kung Fu so transformative.

Superb place of training. I highly recommend it to anyone who is just looking to improve their martial arts skills. This is even a great place to be in after a long stressful day of work. It has such a chilled vibe to it and the teacher is even cooler. He is truly a awesome teacher and even better person to just talk to. Highly highly recommend! Awesome place, awesome staff, 10s across the board for me!
